Te Uru Secondary Art Award 2026

E Tipu, E Rea

Time and location

29 AUG - 13 SEP

Te Uru’s annual Secondary School Art Awards exhibition celebrates the extraordinary developing artistic talent in West Auckland and aims to foster the next generation of artists. E Tipu, E Rea means ‘grow, young shoot,’ a reference to the budding artists as well as the gallery’s place here in Te Wao Nui-a-Tiriwa.

Each year, we invite Secondary Schools from across West Auckland to nominate one outstanding year 13 student to exhibit in Te Uru’s Learning Centre Gallery. Our guest judge will select an overall winner to be awarded a $1,000 prize generously donated by the Lopdell Trust. All nominees will receive a $100 voucher kindly donated by Gordon Harris.

The exhibition presents students’ works from Avondale College, Green Bay High School, Henderson High School, Kelston Boys’ High School, Kelston Girls’ College, Liston College, Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School and Waitākere College.

We are excited to announce that this year’s judge is Associate Professor Linda Tyler. Tyler is a renowned academic teaching art history, art writing and curatorial studies at the University of Auckland. She has held curatorial positions at the Hocken Library and Waikato Museum, and managed the University of Auckland Art Collection.

This exhibition is made possible with the ongoing support of Barfoot and Thompson.
