Join our 2025 Portage Ceramic Awards essayist Robyn Mason on a walking tour of New Lynn / Te Rewarewa that brings to life the vibrant story of the regions clay and ceramics heritage.

Meet at the tour starting at New Lynn War Memorial Library, 3 Memorial Drive

Robyn Mason is a local historian, with a thing for clay, and the Co-Chair of The Portage Ceramics Trust which governs Te Toi Uku Crown Lynn & Clay Museum. The Remains of the Clay walk reveals the storied landscape of New Lynn / Te Rewarewa, situated at the mouth of the Portage between the Waitematā and the Manukau Harbours. This region was once the home of the ceramics industry that produced bricks and sewer pipes for the City and Crown Lynn crockery for the country, and, along the way nurtured many a potter, some of whom are celebrated along the way.
