Launch Event Bill Hammond & Jack Hadley
Time and location
SAT 6 DEC, 4pm
Join us to celebrate the final exhibition openings of the year.
Bill Hammond is solidified as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most significant artists, and we are honoured to present this small survey that spans the remarkable breadth of his practice. From the lyrical works of the 1980s and the iconic paintings of the 1990s inspired by his journey to the Auckland Islands, to earlier explorations in woodwork and etching, the exhibition traces the distinct chapters of Hammond’s evolution.
Hammond’s work intertwines references to nature, mythology and social critique, delivering work that is both visually dense and conceptually rich. His practice has carved a distinctive place within Aotearoa’s art history, existing just beyond the expected and firmly within the realm of the imaginative.
In ASSEMBLIES, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based artist Jack Hadley presents a sculptural installation of modular aluminium structures that occupy a space between function and fantasy, play and precision. Drawing inspiration from fashion show set design, playground architecture, and industrial manufacturing, Hadley explores how structures shape the way we move, gather, and relate to one another.
