Jeena Shin & Jamie Te Heuheu

In Dialogue

Time and location

8 AUG – 1 NOV 2026

This exhibition presents a dialogue between Aotearoa-based painters Jeena Shin (South Korea) and Jamie Te Heuheu (Ngāti Tūwharetoa). It forms part of a series of dialogue exhibitons at Te Uru that bring together two distinct artistic practices through a mutual conceptual inquiry.

The exhibition surveys Shin and Te Heuheu’s shared exploration of paint as a temporal medium. Their works unfold through rhythm and repetition, and in their attention to the possibilities of surface. Yet their approaches are entirely unique, with the exhibition shifting between geometric and gestural; sharp and fluid; quantum physics and jazz music. While Shin’s fragments vibrate and spin in an endless centrifugal motion, Te Heuheu’s monochrome arcs dance to an unheard rhythm. Through their sustained processes and attention to the subtleties of tone and texture, each artist offers an equally active yet unique viewing experience.
