Jeena Shin & Jamie Te Heuheu
In Dialogue
Time and location
8 AUG – 1 NOV 2026
This exhibition brings together the distinct yet resonant practices of two Aotearoa based painters Jeena Shin and Jamie Te Heuheu. In Dialogue presents a conversation shaped by material sensitivity, spatial awareness, and a shared commitment to restraint. While each artist approaches painting through their own lens, both are invested in the possibilities of surface, gesture, and the subtle tensions that emerge through reduction.
Jeena Shin’s paintings are similarly minimalist in their make up, often working through repetition, layering, and delicate variations in colour. Her works invite a slower mode of looking, where forms seem to emerge and recede over time. Through disciplined mark-making, Shin creates surfaces that are both precise and open-ended, encouraging a sustained visual engagement.
Jamie Te Heuheu’s work explores balance, weight, and atmosphere through pared-back compositions that sit between abstraction and suggestion. His paintings are attentive to nuance — small shifts in tone and form that build a quiet but sustained presence. There is a sense of stillness in his practice, where each element feels carefully considered and held in relation to the whole.
Together, their practices create a contemplative exhibition that foregrounds perception, duration, and a measured approach to the physicality of painting. The works operate in a space where meaning is not fixed but gradually unfolds, shaped by attention and proximity.
