An Invitation to a Private Event
Cosmologies Dinner & Fundraiser

You are warmly invited to a special fundraising evening in support of Te Uru. Inspired by the exhibition Cosmologies, the evening brings together art, conversation, and refined dining in a unique sensory experience.

While we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of the Waitākere Ranges Local Board, philanthropic support remains essential in enabling Te Uru’s exhibitions, public programmes, and future ambitions. Funds raised through the evening will directly support Te Uru’s programme for the year ahead.

We would be delighted if you could support this vital fundraising effort and join artist Nikau Hindin for an immersive experience inspired by the exhibition Cosmologies. The exhibition brings Hindin’s work into compelling dialogue with that of Naminapu Maymuru-White. Together, their practices trace the night sky as a living archive, where celestial bodies are not distant phenomena, but active presences carrying law, memory, navigation, spirit, and ecological knowledge across Indigenous knowledge systems.

“Cosmology for our tīpuna was central to tracking the stars and seasons. This dinner extends Nikau’s work, linking the celestial to the palate, and connecting us to our taiao.” Kārena and Kasey Bird

This bespoke evening has been exquisitely curated by acclaimed chefs Kārena and Kasey Bird in close collaboration with Nikau Hindin. Each element has been thoughtfully conceived in response to the exhibition, with a menu that honours the seasonality of Aotearoa and draws deeply on the rhythms of the maramataka and the star mapping embedded within Hindin’s practice.

Through a refined and evocative culinary narrative, Kārena and Kasey Bird reflect the processes of aute making, weaving together ingredients and ideas. The menu foregrounds traditional Māori kai—including tītī and kumara —offering a deeply personal and culturally resonant dining experience.

We invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening—an elegant convergence of art, cuisine, and sound. A three-course dining experience unfolds alongside music, concept, and conversation, engaging the senses in a richly layered encounter.
