This year’s Portage Ceramic Awards judge, Takeshi Yasuda, brings with him an intimate selection of his own recent domestic ware. Yasuda’s early work consisted of ash-glazed stoneware, after which he explored Sancai and Creamware. Most recently, Yasuda has been working with ying qing (‘shadow blue’) porcelain, an early celadon glaze created primarily during the Song Dynasty (960–1279) in Jingdezhen, China.
The Japanese multi-award winning ceramicist and teacher is one of the world’s most celebrated ceramic artists. He travels from Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of the world, where he has established his own studio, having lived in the UK since 1973. A practitioner for more than 50 years, Takeshi’s work is held in major public and private collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum.
