Maungarongo Te Kawa (Ngāti Porou) is a takatāpui fabric artist who produces elaborate quilts and sculptures grounded in te ao Māori. Whakapapa and pūrākau are central to Te Kawa’s practice, which he brings to life using vibrant colour and stylised forms. During the exhibition Te Kawa will run workshops at Te Uru, guiding participants to express their creativity and genealogy through fabric.
