Glitter tiki workshop with Maungarongo Te Kawa

Join us for an afternoon of storytelling and making through this hands-on workshop with artist Maungarongo Te Kawa. You will be invited to create your own tiki figure to take home using fabric, feathers, sparkles and more.

Suitable for adults and children aged six and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a caregiver.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • Booking: Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of full payment. Enquiries and expressions of interest do not count as bookings. All bookings should be paid at the time of booking or at least one week prior to the course starting. Partial or weekly payments are not accepted.
  • Workshop Time: Please refer to the specific workshop details for start and finish times. Punctuality is appreciated to ensure the smooth running of the session. If you are unable to attend due to illness or other reason please email our team to advise.
  • Materials: Unless stated otherwise, all materials will be provided. If any additional supplies are required, participants will be given a required materials list  in advance.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

Te Uru reserves the right to cancel or postpone any class that does not reach a viable number of attendees.

  • Missed Classes: If a class is missed due to illness or other reason for an absence, classes cannot be made up, transferred, or refunded. 
  • Absences: If you know in advance that you will not be in attendance, please inform us by calling 09 817 8087 or emailing education@teuru.org.nz.
  • Medical and Accessibility Needs: Inform our education team of any medical conditions, accessibility needs, allergies, or other special requirements prior to the workshop. This allows us to ensure a safe and accommodating environment.
  • Refunds: A refund will be given if you withdraw from a workshop 10 working days or more before the start date, however an administration fee per booking applies.

For Summer School and Adult’s workshops a $50 administration fee applies for cancellations.

Refunds or credits are not available once workshops have started.

  • Replacement Tutor: In the unlikely event that the scheduled tutor is unavailable due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, a qualified replacement tutor may be provided, or the class may need to be offered at a later date as agreed by participants depending on the circumstance.
  • Class Cancellations: If a class is canceled due to under subscription or unforeseen circumstances, we will notify you as soon as possible and no less than 5 days before the start of the class. You will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
  • Photography and Media Consent: Photos or videos may be taken during classes for promotional purposes, including print and online. Consent is assumed upon booking unless otherwise stated. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform the education team.
  • Lost Property: Any items left behind will be kept at reception for up to three months. Please check with us if you believe you have lost any personal belongings.
  • Health and Safety Protocols: Our staff are trained in first aid, and all necessary health and safety measures are in place to ensure your wellbeing during the workshop.
  • Collection of work: All completed artworks must be collected within 30 days after the completion of the workshop. Te Uru will not be responsible for storing any artworks beyond this period. Artworks not collected within the 30-day timeframe will be disposed of or repurposed.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Participation: Our workshops are designed to be inclusive, engaging, and collaborative. We encourage a respectful and supportive environment where all participants feel comfortable expressing their creativity.
  • Disruptive Behaviour: Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated. Participants who are disruptive may be asked to leave to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
  • Cell Phones and Devices: Please keep cell phones and other devices on silent mode during workshops to minimise disruptions. If necessary, step outside the room to take calls.

General

  • All of our after school workshops have a 12:1 student teacher ratio.

  • Booking are only confirmed upon receipt of payment, enquiries and expressions of interest do not count as bookings.

  • Bookings must be paid in full. We do not allow weekly payment arrangements.

  • Afterschool classes start at 3:30pm and finish at 4:30pm.

  • if your child needs to walk from a nearby school we offer supervised after school care for and extra fee of $40 per term.

  • If you are running late for pickup please contact the gallery 09 817 8087.

  • Classes missed by an individual can not be made up or refunded.

  • Our classes have a sign in/sign out process and require a parent or guardian to sign for the child, unless other arrangements have been made with our education team. 

  • If you know your child will not make a class let us know by contacting 09 817 8087 or email education@teuru.org.nz.

  • Please ensure your children are wearing old clothing and have footwear for health and safety reasons.

  • The gallery must be advised prior to the programme of any medical conditions, behavioural issues, disabilities, allergies, or special requirements that may impact on a child’s participation and where required education staff will be in touch to learn how best to work with your child.

  • An emergency contact name and phone number for each child must be supplied. The name and contact number of the person picking up each child must be supplied.

  • No nut derived products in the space.

Refunds and credits - term bookings can not be refunded or credited once workshops have started, unless discussed with Te Uru’s education manager Adreinne Millwood and director Adrienne Scherning. 

  • If your educator is sick or unable to teach a workshop a replacement tutor will be organised.

  • If classes are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances we will notify you as soon as possible, and a make-up class at the end of term or refund for the session will be issued.

Behavioural expectations.

  • Our afterschool programs are designed for children who are interested in art and are capable of focusing on and participating in art based projects for one hour. Before booking please ensure your child is interested in the chosen workshop and capable of sustaining focus and interest for this amount of time.

  • If your child is behaving in a way that is disruptive to the class you will be asked to collect them. This is to ensure everyone gets the most out of the class and that the environment is positive for all participants. 

  • Cell Phones and devices are not allowed to be used in our education space. If needed there is a phone available.
